Wordmark: Incorporates your company name into a uniquely styled type font treatment. A wordmark is largely made up of the text of the company’s name, and may have some graphic elements - lines, boxes, borders - that interact with, surround or even form the letters.
Eg. Coca Cola, Google
Symbolic logo: Icons and symbols use imagery that conveys a literal or abstract representation of your company.
Eg. The Apple apple, the Nike swoosh
Keep in mind, symbolic logos can be more restrictive to future growth if the symbol is very literal.
